Issues with my Body [Media at fault?] : Seeking constructive advice?Recently, I have lost a lot of selfesteem. I have switched schools and I am trying to find acceptance. With my lack of confidence, I have become more aware of my appearance and what the public has started to expect. While I know that the media has been pushing skinny- I know I cannot pursue that ideal image. I simply enjoy food too much. However, I have lost my appetite and I start to wonder if I am chasing after an unrealistic goal. I have even gone so far as to check pros and cons of eating disorders. I know that in itself is a sign of unhealthy behavior. I am 5'2 and 112lbs - a healthy weight, but Im afraid what I might do to myself. Any suggestions? Please don't respond unless you have something constructive to say.

love yourself just the way you are, don't let anything influence your thinking.

To get a perfect body you need two things: good diet and proper exercise. If you're overweight, you need to cut calories and exercise to lose weight. If you want to gain muscle, you need to start a resistance training routine to stimulate your muscles to grow. Celebrities use these same elements but are much more successful at it then any average person can be. The reason why is because they have a lot more money and time to achieve their goals.
Time is an important factor is losing weight or gaining muscle. You need time to exercise and make healthy food. How much extra time do you have in your day for these? You probably have a 9-5 job and unless you want to wake up very early, you'll have to exercise after work when you're tired and just want to go home. Because you're tired you might not get the most out of your time. When are you going to cook a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner? When are you going to prepare some healthy snacks?
Celebrities have all of these problems solved. If they need to slim up for a movie that starts filming in three months, they hire a gourmet chef, personal trainer, and dietitian. They can afford to devote most of those three months to getting into shape. They don't have to wake up too early and they don't have to workout really late after a long day of work. They have a healthy breakfast, lunch and dinner prepared for them and when they're ready to go workout, they have a very qualified and exclusive personal trainer telling them exactly what to do. No more guessing how many reps or sets to do. How long would you be able to afford a lifestyle like this?
When you see famous people, you also have to keep in mind that looking like them isn't realistic. They have image consultants, make up artists and many other luxuries the rest of us can't afford. You also have to remember that when they're in the news because of a new movie or album, that's when they're going to be in shape. You don't see them when they're out of work, between movies: that's when they look like the rest of us. So the next time you're wondering why you can't look like Brad Pitt or Eva Longoria, you'll know the answer: time and money.

As long as there is no excess fat on you that is fine. Eat good, and play sports. Sports are a logical way of staying in shape whilst having fun. After all we can all relate to being lazy and not working out every day. But if you play sports, you don't have to think about the chore of excersising. You simply focus on having some fun, and getting into shape comes naturaly without you even noticing it. So thats my best advice. Also don't be shy, go to a doctor to get a profesional opinion. Does he think you are too fat or skinny (because believe it or not there is a thing as being to fat or skinny). Ask your doctor to check your BMI. If you don't know what a BMI is ask him, he'll tell you. From there you will Know where to go. But remember, play sports.
And good luck.
ps any time you feel obsesive go to anorexia.com to show hos how dangerous being obsessive about losing weight can become to your body. Obviously you don't want to starve yourself, as it could affect your health, make you look horribly skinny. In the long term starving would also prove inneffective, as you will simply get hungry and go back to excess unhealthy eating, more importantly because you starved yourself, your body will store your food as fat rather than burn most of the food, in anticipation that if you starve yourself you have a food supply. This would obviosly make you fat.
At the same time eat sensibly, so you don't pt on too much weight. Obviously eating a shed load would make you fat to put it bluntly.
My guess is that you will recieve a lot of advice for this question and some may complicated or unachievable to you.,
my best advice is use common sense when eating. Common sense is the easiest and most sensible route to take when dieting, eat three square meals a day, and 1 or two snacks a day. Obviously you don't want your food to be dripping in fat (thats common sense), but at the same time make sure you fill your belly with proper food .
Oh and Play Sports! Sports! Sports! Swimming is probably best for staying in shape, and its effortless too!

Well, I suppose I am a victim of this myself. I am 5'2 also, and about 112-113lbs. My self esteem has gone down the toilet, and I feel like I'm fat, ugly, and worthless, when everyone is trying to convince me that I'm "stunning" and that they are "jealous" of me. But I have no reason to be. Changing schools can be tough. I have never actually done this, but I know that its hard. You don't know too many people, and feel like everyone is constantly looking at you/judging you. But all I can say, is keep your head up. Try to accept compliments, and tell yourself that you are worth everything in the world. Put yourself first. Being skinny is something I strive for more then anything else. But you know, its not the most important thing in the world although it may seem like it. You're gorgeous. Remember that. Also, don't starve yourself. Because you know what? Believe it or not, that is going to make you gain more weight. Your body will try to hold onto all of the carbs and sugar, and hold it in, making you gain more weight. Its the wrong thing to do at this point. Just be careful on what you do. Try to eat three meals a day with 2 snacks in between. Drink a glass of water 10 minutes before each meal. Walk places with your friends, maybe try some situps each day, just to tone yourself down. But remember, be sure to have a day that you can cheat a bit, eating some of the things you love to reward yourself for your efforts and hard work. I hope this works for you. :)
