Do I have an eating disorder?

Do I have an eating disorder?I'm 16 and I'm overweight..( for real, the doctor even says so...by about 80 lbs.) I never do anything, I hardly have friends anymore, all I do is watch videos about anorexia and other eating disorders and research pro ana websites, seriously for up to five hours a day. Then I get upset and cut myself because I'm fat and then I go eat...it doesn't make any sense to me.What is wrong with me?

do not hurt yourself over this. eat small meals at a time but dont hurt your body. anorexia is very harmful to your body, and can cause serious damage. you are not "fat" because fat is more than 80 lbs over weight.

It sounds more like you want an eating disorder than actually have one, searching the pro ana sights are a bad idea if they trigger your SI. To have an eating disorder you have to be showing some of the traits,
COE (compulsive over eating)
eating large amounts of food in an attempt to deal with emotions
Bulimia
binge & purge cycle, eating large amounts of food and then purging the food from your body
Anorexia
restricting your calories, intense fear of gaining weight. BMI 25% under average.

eating disorders kill, they seem like a good idea until you are stuck in one and cant stop. Please get help for your SI, don't leave it until its too late.

Yes.

However, fitting into some diagnostic criteria of "eating disorder" isn't important. It doesn't somehow validate what you're feeling. I have been diagnosed with ED-NOS in the past... it's basically an eating disorder that doesn't fit into the criteria of anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, etc.

Based on what you've said, you're likely ED-NOS... so what now? I would guess you've been fairly depressed or felt very lonely for a while. It's the feeling where you can be in a crowded room and still feel all alone. Is this the first time you've had obsessions like this? It's like the obsession is the food and the weight and the control, but the compulsion is reading those sites, cutting yourself to feel the relief and the subsequent bingeing.

Also, I really feel like you should look into borderline personality disorder. The only reason I say that is that I think you're probably very sensitive to rejection, and there are resources to help you with that. Read this site, you may feel you relate to it ...

BOTTOM LINE - You need to see a doctor, likely a psychiatrist and a therapist of some kind. You can either keep doing this until you realize you've wasted a good portion of your life, or start getting help now and working through these issues.

And just to get through those voices in your mind that tell you the wrong things:
1. You do have a problem.
2. You are "sick enough" to warrant treatment
3. You can get better.
